Spoilers ahead
A frightened young woman named Mary wakes up in the bedroom of a stranger’s house, her injuries leaving her partially blind and deaf. The homeowner, The Woman, who found her in the bathroom that morning, tends to the wounds and manages to slightly restore her hearing with a hearing aid, then asks what happened.
In a tense flashback, Mary recalls the night before, when she was chased through the countryside by a tall, slender creature with no eyelids billed as The Guest. During the pursuit, she discovers the house and breaks in to escape from The Guest. The house initially seems empty, so she arms herself with a kitchen knife and hides in the bathroom, only to find The Guest waiting inside.
