During the Cold War, a secret Soviet program called “Patriot” recruits a diverse team of enhanced individuals to defend the motherland against superhuman threats. The project creates a lineup drawn from the different nationalities of the union, each granted extraordinary abilities: Arsus can shift into a colossal, bear-like form with immense strength; Khan moves with blistering speed and carries two curved swords; Ler can shape and command earth and stone; and Xenia has the power to become invisible underwater. The program succeeds in building a formidable force, unlike a previous effort known as Module-1, which failed to achieve its goals.

When Module-1’s creator, the brilliant but controversial scientist Professor Avgust Kuratov, is cornered by authorities, he escapes to the wilderness to continue his work. A military raid on Patriot’s base ends with Kuratov bombing the lab, surviving thanks to protective chemicals that keep him alive enough to rebuild himself as a cyborg. This new body gives him electricity-generation abilities and control over machines, and he also engineers an army of clones to prove his genius to the world. The laboratory blast leaves Arsus, Ler, Khan, and Xenia forced into hiding for years, scattered across the vast expanse of the Soviet Union.

In the present day, the world seems to move on, but danger resurfaces when autonomous, battle-ready robots turn on their human overseers during a routine training exercise. The Ministry of Defence responds by reviving Patriot, appointing Major Elena Larina to lead the operation and locate the missing Guardians. The team’s reunion happens piecemeal: Ler is found meditating in Armenia, Khan lives on the Kazakh steppes, Arsus inhabits a secluded cabin in northern Siberia, and Xenia performs daring stunts in a Moscow circus. Their first mission is a daring raid on Kuratov’s laboratory inside an old factory, but they are captured at the outset.

Kuratov, eager to recruit them, offers the Guardians a place by his side. They refuse, and the scientist’s temper flares. He traps three of the Guardians within a magnetic field and injures Ler in retaliation. Kuratov then travels to a military facility at Noginsk to seize control of tanks and other armored hardware, launching a bold assault on Moscow. His plan hinges on a “Module-2 Project”—a broadcast beacon that would transmit a signal via an ancient Soviet satellite to every other satellite in orbit, granting him dominion over global technology. A protective force field guards his beacon tower, and Kuratov’s forces destroy several jet fighters that attempt to disrupt him. In a grim turn, a military collaborator, Major-General Nikolai Dolgov, asks for compensation for his assistance and is strangled by Kuratov when he’s refused.

Major Elena Larina doesn’t waver. She frees the other Guardians from Kuratov’s clutches and, in a grim rescue, has one of Kuratov’s clones studied while Kuratov himself releases poison gas to kill the observer. The Guardians receive training at Patriot’s restored facility, arenning up with suits and specialized weapons that amplify their abilities.

The mission intensifies as the Guardians push toward Moscow. Xenia and Arsus lead the charge through city streets, Ler uses his earth-shaping powers to neutralize rival soldiers in an underground car park, and Khan soars above the city using an airplane, attempting to breach Kuratov’s force field. Inside a crowded shopping mall that connects to the tower-beacon, they navigate a deadly gauntlet of gunfire and guards. Khan swings from the aircraft to sever a critical support pipe, causing Kuratov’s troops to lose their footing and fall.

With the power source for the beacon in their reach, Xenia seizes it to short-circuit the transmitter and temporarily disable the beacon’s transmissions. The force field collapses, giving the Guardians a clear shot at Kuratov atop the tower. They engage him in combat, but their efforts are not enough to bring him down through sheer force. Khan’s super-speed becomes crucial: he belts all three Guardians to a grappling rope and attaches the rope to an airplane, attempting to pull them free. Kuratov interferes with the plane’s controls, and the group plunges into a river as the craft spirals toward disaster.

Emerging from the water, the Guardians face a moment of choice. Their instinct might push them back to Kuratov’s beacon to finish the job, but Major Elena arrives and intervenes. Instead of destroying the beacon outright, she advocates a final, coordinated act of teamwork: the Guardians should pool their energy and unleash a shared blast. It’s a risky move—one that could be fatal for them—but if successful, it would wipe out Kuratov’s power once and for all. The Guardians join hands and channel their combined energy, producing a devastating surge that shatters Kuratov’s tower and the supporting skyscrapers around it. Kuratov falls to his death, and Elena notes that while Kuratov boasted of creating the Guardians, they truly carved their own path.

In the aftermath, the Guardians recover and reunite with Elena in a Moscow rebuilt from the catastrophe. They decide to return to civilian life but hold the door open for future service to Patriot. As they walk away, Elena whispers that “we found other Guardians,” hinting at a larger legacy taking shape beyond their own team. In a post-credits scene, Elena is seen pursuing a soldier who claims that a mysterious force named Ferrum has sent him on a new mission, setting up a future challenge and the possibility of fresh allies for Patriot. > “we found other Guardians.”
