Amidst the conflict in Syria and Northern Iraq, where ISIS and Assad's forces are clashing, a group of courageous women are fighting back and achieving remarkable successes. These members of the Free Women’s Party come from diverse backgrounds, including Paris and Turkish Kurdistan, united by a shared vision: to establish a democratic Syria founded on gender equality. Armed and driven, they carry on a movement with a history stretching back to the Kurdish Workers’ Party in Turkey, honoring the legacy of Sakine Cansiz and reflecting on the sacrifices endured by women in the movement—facing imprisonment, violence, and persecution—in their fight for liberation and equality.
