While the crowd roars a beauty dies, sports writer Jimmy Jones of the Hollywood Post aches to become a crime reporter and probes every assignment for misconduct. Covering a girls’ softball team, he learns their sponsor, former racketeer Foy Harris, has supposedly gone straight. Suspecting the operation is still crooked, Jimmy shadows the team, both to investigate and to pursue his attraction to the new pitcher, Ann Casey.
