In 1987, Dr. Ben Carson, Cuba Gooding Jr, travels to Ulm, Germany to meet Peter and Augusta Rausch, the parents of twins conjoined at the back of their heads. After laying out the stakes in clear terms, Cuba Gooding Jr agrees to operate, determined to give the twins their best chance at a normal future. The plan he devises is meticulous and measured, built on months of careful research, consultation, and preparation aimed at increasing the odds of a successful separation.
