Hai Phượng is an ex-gangster who has walked away from a life of crime after a rift with her family. Now living a quieter, harder-working existence in the countryside, she supports her daughter with small debts and rough work as a debt collector. The weight of their situation falls on Mai, her daughter, who endures relentless bullying because of Hai Phượng’s past and the absence of a father. Mai dreams of dropping out of school to help her mother survive, a choice that underscores how fragile their bond and security have become.

In a crowded market, Hai Phượng witnesses a moment that becomes the turning point for them both: Mai is accused of stealing a wallet. The crowd pressure forces Hai Phượng to take a side, a move that wounds Mai and drives her to run away. It’s soon revealed that Mai was simply returning a wallet to a drunk man who had misplaced it. As Hai Phượng searches for her daughter, she discovers the danger is far greater than a petty misunderstanding—Mai is being hunted by thugs.

Hai Phượng’s pursuit is a brutal, high-stakes chase through streets full of danger. She fights through countless henchmen, and though she narrowly escapes, the trail leads her to a shocking truth: the thugs are dragging Mai toward Saigon. She grabs a ride in a passing truck and finally reaches the city, hoping to find allies in a world she left behind. Her attempts to seek help from fellow gang members are rebuffed, and she turns to the authorities, even secretly stealing reports about missing children to piece together what’s really happening.

Her confrontation with a criminal named Trực becomes a brutal turning point. The fight is grueling, and at first Trực gains the upper hand, but Hai Phượng turns the tables and spares him out of respect for his mother. This encounter gives her critical insight into the operation she is chasing and the location of the thugs’ hideout. The base reveals a horrifying scheme: children are being used as illegal organ donors. Hai Phượng presses deeper, taking on wave after wave of henchmen, and finally comes face-to-face with the operation’s boss, Thanh Sói.

Thanh Sói overwhelms her in a fierce confrontation and orders Hai Phượng thrown into the river. Before the river claims her, however, Hai Phượng catches a crucial clue—the train Thanh Sói is planning to take. Her near-death moment becomes a rescue mission when a detective named Detective Lương pulls her from the water, aided by a compassionate nurse who helps stabilize her. This rescue sets up a fragile alliance; Hai Phượng seeks out her brother for help, but he refuses to reconcile with a sister who walked away from the family and their funeral, calling her a terrible mother. The persistence of Detective Lương, though, finally convinces Hai Phượng to team up.

The new partnership drives them toward the climactic chase aboard a moving train. Onboard, the tense hunt for Thanh Sói’s henchmen escalates into a lethal showdown. Thanh Sói tries to derail them by changing the tracks and splitting the train, but Hai Phượng fights through the chaos and delivers a decisive blow to the boss. With the train split and the criminals scattered, Mai and Hai Phượng are reunited amid the peril, and Hai Phượng quickly overcomes the remaining threats.

Yet the victory comes at a price. Hai Phượng is shot in the chest by a random thug, and Detective Lương is forced to intervene, ending the threat to both mother and daughter. While Hai Phượng is rushed to the hospital, she begins to heal and repair the broken ties with her brother. Mai, now treated with care by her peers, receives a new sense of belonging. In a powerful vow, Hai Phượng promises Mai that she will teach her how to defend herself, signaling a hopeful, resilient future for them both.
