Alec McCall, Matthew Modine, is a skilled spy who teams up with Clements, a quick-witted chimp, to thwart a dangerous bid to turn animals into soldiers for the highest bidder. The mission takes a sharp turn when his boss Flick, Taylor Negron, is revealed to be the real threat, intent on performing grim experiments on Clements to manufacture an army of chimp soldiers. This revelation forces Alec to confront a moral crossroads, choosing between allegiance to his organization and protecting an innocent ally who has become his most trusted partner.
To escape Flick’s grip, Alec and Clements head toward a quieter, more personal setting—Alec’s hometown—where they cross paths with a 13-year-old genius named Michael, played by Seth Adkins. Michael is eager to prove himself, hoping to win the admiration of a girl by joining the football team. The coach, a practical and demanding figure, is Jeffrey Tambor, who agrees to let Michael try out on the condition that he tutors the team’s star players who are on the cusp of being dismissed for poor grades. This arrangement gives Michael a chance to show his talent and his heart, even as the real danger—Flick’s search for Clements—looms over the schoolyard and the stadium.
Back at home, Megan, a capable computer programmer played by Roma Downey, rents Alec a room, unaware of the full scope of his chimp companion. She becomes a quiet, steady presence in the whirlwind of danger and deception, and her budding connection with Alec adds a human counterpoint to the science-fiction action. Michael, who knows more than he lets on about Clements, becomes a bridge between the grown-up world of spies and the more innocent, high-stakes world of a teenager trying to make the football team.
As Flick’s henchmen close in, the plan to reclaim Clements escalates. The intruders break in and attempt to gas Michael and the chimp, a brutal tactic that leads Flick to transport them to his hidden headquarters for the doctor, Gilbert Gottfried, to conduct his disconcerting experiments. The tension ramps up quickly, and Alec must orchestrate a daring rescue to prevent a grim future for the chimp and the mission.
The chase culminates at the Homecoming football game, a setting charged with community pride and distraction, where the unlikely duo—Alec and Clements—join the field to thwart Flick’s attempt to dominate the game and seize control of the chimp. The spectacle blends action with a touch of heart, as Michael’s on-field effort to win the game aligns with the effort to protect an innocent creature from exploitation. In a climactic turn of justice, Flick and his henchmen are arrested for animal cruelty, and the day ends with a sense of closure for the vulnerable partners who refused to abandon each other.
Throughout the story, the film threads in moments of humor, danger, and moral choice, balancing high-stakes action with the warmth of unlikely friendships. The supporting cast—ranging from young players on the football field to the guardians who look after their community—adds texture to a tale about loyalty, courage, and the belief that even a spy and a chimp can make a difference when they stand together. In the end, what begins as a perilous mission to weaponize a chimp becomes a testament to mercy, teamwork, and the courage to do what’s right, even when the odds are stacked against you.
