Spoilers ahead
The film unfolds through a tapestry of seemingly disparate vignettes that gradually reveal how desire, fear, and hidden truths ripple through a group of interconnected lives in Thailand and beyond. At the center of one thread is Gaitok, who reviews security footage and discovers that Timothy has broken into a booth and stolen his gun. This revelation sits alongside intimate family tensions: Piper has confessed to her parents that her trip to Thailand to write a thesis was a fabrication, and she now longs to return after graduation to spend at least a year at a meditation center. Victoria is unsettled by Piper’s deepening immersion in Buddhism, especially since the family itself is only nominally Christian.
