During the summer of 1964, over 700 volunteers, many of them students, traveled to Mississippi to challenge the state's deeply entrenched segregation. They worked to register African American voters, establish freedom schools providing alternative education, and formed the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party to demand representation. Through eyewitness accounts and recently discovered archival footage, the film recounts their experiences and the immense challenges they faced, as their efforts met with fierce resistance and put their lives at risk.
