Frankie Boyle’s Farewell to the Monarchy (2023): Cast & Plot

Following the coronation of Charles III in 2023, Frankie Boyle takes a critical and comedic look at the history of the British monarchy. Throughout the documentary, he uses humor to bridge the gap between historical royalty and modern issues, specifically touching upon Prince Harry’s diminished role and the allegations of sexual violence involving Prince Andrew.

The exploration begins with a look at William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings, where Boyle discusses combat and land ownership. He argues that William’s historical approach to land created the foundation for the Crown Estate, rendering the royals the “world’s largest landowners” today. The narrative then shifts to Richard III, examining his portrayal in Shakespeare’s works and the details of his 2010s exhumation.
