Ron Lewis, Joe Don Baker, a nightclub owner and gambler, returns home to Tennessee from a trip to Texas. As he pulls into his driveway, a deputy confronts him about a roadside shooting and roughs him up, which quickly escalates into a brutal fight that ends with the deputy dead and Lewis badly beaten. He is arrested for the deputy’s death, facing a grim future he never intended.

Corrupt cops, including a thieving sheriff, and unscrupulous lawyers ignore his claim of self-defense and railroad him into a prison sentence of up to ten years. His girlfriend, Susan Barrett, Conny Van Dyke, is sexually assaulted and warned not to assist his defense in any way.

Behind bars, Lewis is befriended by the mob boss Sal Viccarone John Marley and hit man Vince Greeson Gabriel Dell. After four years, he is paroled and immediately sets out to get even with those who wronged him. Vince, also released, is contracted to kill Lewis but ultimately decides to help him, as does a law-abiding deputy, Sam Perry Brock Peters.

Lewis begins a perilous campaign to uncover the truth and settle the score, enacting his own form of justice through a sequence of calculated moves and painful revelations. He methodically torments those responsible, not just out of vengeance but to force a confession of the night’s events, gradually dismantling the lies that put him behind bars. The pursuit of justice grows into a morally gray journey where fear, loyalty, and the desire for vindication blur the lines between right and wrong, leading to a climactic reveal that reframes everything that happened that fateful night. The tale examines the cost of violence and the fragile boundary between defense and retaliation, all while staying true to the core pulse of the original story.
