Marc Denning, Red Mitchell, is left as the sole survivor when a lakeside cabin party ends in a brutal massacre. As three couples play cards, Holly, the pregnant member of the group, heads to the shower and a scream rings out. Holly is found murdered in the shower, her entrails exposed and her baby gone. The remaining friends fall in a sequence of brutal fates: another woman is discovered hanging upside down with her throat cut, while the last woman is dragged out the window by a tree branch to her death. A terrifying presence with glowing red eyes seems to stalk the men, and a zombie-like creature clamps down on Marc as it slices through the night. He barely escapes and ends up after a roadside collision waking in a hospital with a broken leg and three broken ribs, while the authorities begin a full-scale investigation into the killings.

In the days that follow, Howard Jacobsen as Nash and the others become central to a mystery that defies simple motives. Marc starts to dig for answers with the help of paranormal hints and occult lore. A red-caped tarot reader named Brother Magnus operates at the edges of the case, reading for a Southern-accented woman who disappears in a flash of danger. The figure in the shadows zaps bullets away and reveals a power beyond ordinary crime. To complicate matters, Ben, a psychic who has helped the police before, is revealed to be identical to Magnus. Ben leaves a box of ancient books for the investigators, including The Necronomicon and a volume called The Gate and the Key, among other grim tomes such as The Chronicles of Yog-Kothag and Lost Gods. Reading these texts, Marc grows convinced that the murders are ritual sacrifices rather than casual killings, especially after a note Ben leaves hints that “he’s coming back”—a clue Marc translates as Yog-Kothag, an old god kept in check by cosmic forces.

Reggie, a survivor of a previous massacre, enters the picture and teams up with Marc. They meet with Lt. Leo Ball, a sharp detective Jon Cox, who becomes an ally as the mystery deepens. The trio heads to Ben’s house, where Leo’s knowledge and Ben’s occult books drive the investigation forward. As the plot weaves between police work, arcane lore, and a renewed wave of violence, Lisa, Marc’s secretary, helps chart the killings on a map, revealing a looming pattern that forms a pentagram with the Nash real estate agency at its center. The idea takes on a chilling, almost scientific edge as Marc explains that Yog-Kothag was an ancient god so malevolent that the other deities imprisoned him on a quasar.

The terror intensifies when the zombie reappears and targets Marc and Reggie. They fight back with a fire poker, strike it with their car, and set the creature ablaze—only for it to return again and again. The struggle culminates when the undead thing impales Marc with a mystical dagger, and he must summon all his remaining strength to reverse the attack. The tension escalates as Nash is seen in another terrifying vision, clutching the moment of truth in his grasp.

Holly’s apparent return in flash, as Nash seems to be present in the moment, spirals into a revelation: the demonic infant that appears in the scene is a grotesque manifestation tied to Nash’s long history. Nash reveals startling powers—bullets fail against him, and he is capable of resisting what would be fatal blows. A birth certificate surfaces, dating Nash over a century old, and the truth comes into focus: the “cult” behind the killings is Nash and his ancient zombie form, orchestrating ritual murders over decades. The grip of Yog-Kothag is finally broken when Denning confronts Nash, and Denning stabs Nash with the dagger as Yog-Kothag’s voice booms in warning: “Worm! Thou hast failed me!”

What follows is a cosmic, unsettling ending. The dying Nash seems to be drawn into a void while Yog-Kothag’s voice resounds, and the final caption hints at the fate of Denning himself: somewhere, a man named Nash is screaming. The story remains a stark blend of ritual horror and science-fiction speculation, where the line between supernatural menace and mortal villainy is blurred, and the struggle to survive gives way to a grim, eternal warning.
