A raucous, colorful tale set on San Francisco’s Barbary Coast at the turn of the century. Duke Fergus falls for entertainer Ann “Flaxen” Tarry, loses his stake to crooked gambler Boss Tito Moreell, learns the game, returns wealthy, opens a casino with Flaxen, only to see it shattered by the 1906 earthquake, delivering a shocking climax the likes of which cinema had never seen.

Duke Fergus, a naive Montana cowboy, arrives in San Francisco and visits the infamous Barbary Coast, a place where risk and romance mingle with high-stakes gambling. He quickly falls for Flaxen Tarry, the radiant star of the fanciest gambling hall, known as the Flame of the Barbary Coast. Fergus is drawn into a gamble against the hall’s owner and Flaxen’s lover, Tito Morell, and, as expected, he is cheated and loses all his money.
