Five young fighters survive to escape the burning Shaolin temple as Qing soldiers destroy it, and they quickly form a tight-knit group. They establish secret codes to identify themselves and other patriots, swear vengeance, and decide to recruit more loyal fighters while they plot to flee the Qing forces. They also set out to uncover the insider who betrayed Shaolin, making their mission not only personal but deeply strategic.
The tale thickens when the traitor Ma Fu-Yi, Johnny Wang Lung-Wei, joins forces with top Qing fighters to finish off the rebels, hoping to erase Shaolin’s revived will. He is soon exposed by Ma Chao-Hsing, Alexander Fu Sheng, one of the five escapees, and is captured, a bitter blow that hardens the survivors’ resolve and tightens their alliance against the invaders.
Hu Te-Ti, [David Chiang Da-Wei], then encounters a covert faction of Shaolin fighters who pose as bandits. He persuades them to join the cause and assists in a bold plan to rescue Ma Chao-Hsing, weaving together the hidden strengths of both rebels and fighters. When the bandit leader is killed, the remaining bandits choose to align with the Shaolin patriots, magnifying the resistance against the Qing onslaught and broadening the pool of talent available to the fugitives.
As a string of defeats tests the group against Qing kung fu experts, the five escapees retreat to the ruins of the Shaolin temple to rebuild their strength. They study new forms, sharpen their techniques, and reinforce their strategy, hoping to turn the tide. Along the way, seasoned fighters join the circle—like Tsai Te-Chung, [Ti Lung], and Patriot Liu, [Lau Kar-Wing]—bringing experience, discipline, and leadership to the fledgling rebellion.
With renewed purpose, each of the five trains to counter a specific master’s style and weaponry, preparing for single-combat showdowns that are as personal as they are martial. They push themselves to master distinct fighting forms, adapt to different ranges and weapons, and refine timing and footwork in a man-to-man contest that will determine the fate of their comrades and the memory of the destroyed temple.
The narrative threads a patient, relentless pursuit of vengeance with a steadfast commitment to loyalty, resilience, and the preservation of Shaolin’s legacy. The survivors’ journey—from escape to regrouping, from undercover warfare to open resistance—highlights how cooperation, strategy, and disciplined training can soften overwhelming odds and forge a path toward reclaiming their sacred ground.
