What Is Empreinte About?
The premise of Empreinte without spoilers.
The film returns to the origins of cinema, recalling Marey and Muybridge’s pre‑cinema experiments. Director Baert, with a model, seeks to rediscover dancer Loie Fuller’s aerial movements as shown in the 1901 Fire Dance. It explores the malleable “imprints” of the dancer, the circulation of light and material, and the hybridisation of film and skin, creating a new organism where celluloid and flesh attain an equal aesthetic status.
