Emotional Arithmetic follows three people who formed a bond in the Drancy internment camp during World War II: Jakob Bronski Max von Sydow, Melanie Lansing Winters Susan Sarandon, and Christopher Lewis Gabriel Byrne. In the grim, crowded world of the camp, Jakob saw a spark of humanity in the two orphaned children and did what he could to help them endure the fear and hunger. Years after they are released, those early connections echo through their lives, resurfacing when they meet again and must face the lasting wounds of their past.
