Ejen Ali: The Movie 2019

Fifteen years ago, Niki [Nabilah Rais] and Aliya [Salina Salmee] steal an artificial heart for Mak Nyah, but their plan is intercepted by the MATA pillar heads. Aliya fights to give Niki a chance to flee, and the two years later, as the city of Cyberaya grows, their shared past shadows every move they make. Mak Yah’s memory and the injuries that followed haunt Niki as she remembers a time when she could walk again, and Aliya’s earlier help remains a quiet, driving force behind the newer schemes that unfold.

In the present, a group of intruders hijacks a plane carrying Cyberaya’s mayor, Dato’ Othman [Abu Shafian Abd Hamid]. Ali [Ida Rahayu], Alicia [Noorhayati Maslini], and Bakar [Shafiq Isa] rush to stop the ambush, but the intruders slip away as Othman is ejected from the craft. The situation is quickly described as a test of authority and technology: Bobby and Fit arrive to save the mayor, and Fit lands the plane using an Override Mode that mirrors the new IRIS Neo, a next-generation system capable of repeated overrides. That night, Ali discovers a pen-drive tucked inside a music box left by his mother, a clue that ties the crisis to MATA’s deeper ambitions.

Back at MATA’s hub, Othman reveals that he built the organization to drive Cyberaya forward, with every agent ultimately serving his vision. General Rama [Azman Zulkiply] confirms that the fuel in the hijacking is Azurium, and that the weapons and the perpetrators originate outside Cyberaya. Rama orders a raid on Abang Bear [Fadhli Shafian], a key intermediary in the weapon supply chain. Bear escapes, but Niki captures him and seizes the weapons. Ali chases Niki through crowded streets and arrives in the slums, where the pursuit underscores the personal history that binds their fates.

In a warehouse, Ali discovers a symbol on Niki’s earrings that mirrors the pen-drive Aliya left behind years earlier. Niki realizes that Ali is the son of Aliya, and memories of Aliya’s kindness—helping Niki walk again after a devastating accident at Othman’s factory—surface as the two confront their intertwined pasts. The Fringe becomes a focal point as Vikram [Azuan Wanji Shamsir]—the man behind Beta Tower—intensifies the hunt. Rama orders an investigation of Vikram’s “nests,” while Ali and Niki press on to clear them before the authorities arrive. When Ali’s team is suddenly sidelined, Alicia confronts the strain of working for Othman, and a tense pursuit ensues, culminating in a battle at a shopping mall where Fit forcibly removes Ali’s IRIS.

The intruders on the plane are revealed to be allied with Niki; she had pickpocketed Fit’s IRIS Neo and accessed it with Aliya’s pen-drive. Niki’s perspective of betrayal deepens as she confesses that Aliya was recruited by MATA to help create IRIS, while Niki herself felt abandoned. Years later, Niki makes a dramatic move to Cyberaya’s defense facility to launch three missiles, only to be checked by Aliya’s overriding presence, who sacrifices herself to destroy the missiles and dies from the exertion.

At the Fringe, Vikram seeks revenge for the Beta Tower raid, and Mak Yah returns Ali’s IRIS. Niki presses forward, taking Othman hostage at the inauguration of his factory. Yet the agents—some wielding IRIS Neos—advance, and Niki tries to seize control again. Ali overrides his own IRIS, stepping into its dimension where Aliya appears and explains that the IRIS stores the data of its prior owners and that the device’s power ends when its owner’s determination fades. Aliya urges him to persist, not rely on a machine, and to fight with resolve. The transfer of Aliya’s data into Niki’s IRIS revokes access, and Niki is detained.

In the aftermath, Othman recovers from his injuries, and the Neo project is disbanded due to security flaws. Bakar shares his mother’s memories with MATA, and Dr. Ghazali [Haziq Khushairi] joins Viktor in planning a Peripheral Development Project to improve life in Cyberaya. The group gathers for a celebratory feast at Mamak Maju, marking a fragile peace but signaling that the city’s power games are far from over.

Two credit scenes hint at a new path: Dayang [Aina Nadzir] assigns Ali to an artificially intelligent armor named Project SATRIA, while Rizuan and Dos shadow Ali at the MATA Headquarters, suggesting that the story of Cyberaya’s guardians—its tech, its politics, and its people—will continue in new, unforeseen directions.
