Pughazhenthi Subramaniam [Atharvaa Murali] is a celebrated hurdles athlete living in Thanjavur, known for his speed and a string of local victories, including a local meet where he clocked a new record. Under the steady guidance of his coach Devaraj [Aadukalam Naren], he trains with a tight circle of fellow runners as they gear up for a pivotal meet in Kolkata that could open the door to the national circuit. Senthil [Kaali Venkat] makes a brief guest appearance, watching the young athlete from the sidelines with a quiet nod to his hard work and dedication.
A flashback reveals a harsh truth: Pughazh carries Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia, a rare blood-clotting disorder that can be life-threatening if he bleeds from even a small injury. His father Subramaniam, Jayaprakash, a constable at the local police station, is fiercely protective and harbors big dreams for his son, hoping he will rise above obstacles and become a name to remember.
Gayathri Venugopal, Sri Divya, a college student living in Chennai, begins with a distant, everyday dilemma—an anonymous harassment call that she initially handles with sharp, fearless profanity. When a misdial brings the caller to Thanjavur’s lines, she apologizes the next day, and a playful exchange begins: she tops up Pughazh’s mobile balance as a lighthearted gesture, and he later teases her into a longer conversation. Despite never meeting in person, a spark kindles between them, and Gayathri’s curiosity deepens as their messages grow warmer and more personal.
The Calcutta meet is unexpectedly shifted to Chennai, prompting Devaraj to take the team there ahead of schedule for extra training. This relocation gives Pughazh a real chance to cross paths with Gayathri, whose life is now tangled with a family plot and the perilous world of crime. Dinesh Venugopal, [Thirumurugan], Gayathri’s brother, becomes entangled in a counterfeit-money scam and ends up calling the cops on the criminal gang behind the notes. The gang’s right-hand man admires Gayathri and becomes obsessed, while the gang leader presses for an arranged marriage with his favored henchman to control her future.
Tensions escalate when Dinesh interferes with the criminals’ plans and reveals his identity to protect his sister. The gang, enraged by the interference, decides to silence him. When the criminals close in on Dinesh, Pughazh happens to be on his way to meet Gayathri and gives Dinesh a ride, lying about his sister’s hospital condition to keep the distraction intact. The misdirection buys Dinesh time, but the gang’s vigilance is sharpened; they spot Pughazh and prepare to strike as he moves on toward Gayathri.
During a tense sequence, Pughazh’s hands stay steady and his fists do the talking as he fights off the gang. A chaotic moment results in Gayathri being knocked from her scooter when a gang member is flung onto her path, and she catches a glimpse of Pughazh on the brink of the clash. Their eyes meet briefly over the chaos, and in that instant, Pughazh’s quiet bravery resonates with Gayathri’s growing feelings for him. He still manages to reach Gayathri in time to confess his care for her, even as danger closes in from the shadows.
On Gayathri’s birthday, the pair cross again, and their bond deepens as Devaraj and his team push forward with their training. Yet tragedy shadows the triumph: Dinesh is killed by the gang, leaving Gayathri and Pughazh to navigate the fallout and the escalating threat. The DCP Rudrakumar [Selva] steps into the frame, supplying Pughazh with a gun—an act kept discreet so the truth of the weapon’s origin remains hidden from prying eyes—and urges him to act decisively to protect his friends and stand up to the criminals once and for all.
Armed with resolve and physical prowess, Pughazh confronts the criminals again, repelling their attacks and ultimately overpowering them. The confrontation bleeds into the upcoming hurdles race: a planted fake athlete injures his arm, but he refuses to yield. He fights through the pain, finishing the race in a dramatic photo finish, by a margin of just 0.01 seconds, sealing his victory.
The finale offers a luminous mission accomplished: Gayathri becomes his wife, and she stands beside him as he lifts gold at the Asian Games. This triumph also propels him into a new role back in Thanjavur, as he accepts the post of DSP, ready to protect the community he loves and to honor the path carved through grit, loyalty, and a quiet, enduring love.
