Drop the Curtain 1955

In a bustling city, Cantinflas plays a window cleaner who is offered a rare chance to clean the windows of Lulu Duval Christiane Martel, the famous French actress starring in a grand theater revue. When her precious necklace disappears, the thief’s agent Julián Alejandro Ciangherotti uses the opportunity to steal it, and the window cleaner is unjustly accused because he was cleaning the windows at the time. Anita Beatriz Saavedra, the actress’s loyal assistant, believes in his innocence and steps in to advocate for him.

To avoid a wrongful conviction, the theft is traced to a criminal band led by Rafael Alcayde, who negotiates the necklace with the gang. The Police Commissioner Víctor Alcocer then persuades the window cleaner to work as a spy against the gang in exchange for his freedom.

With his freedom on the line, the window cleaner infiltrates the theater as an employee, slipping into a world of stagehands and performers where Lulu Duval performs. Inside the theater, he faces constant risk: band members who want him dead because they think he is betraying them, and theater workers who chase him for the mischief and trouble he causes during rehearsals and shows.

Throughout this perilous mission, Anita’s faith in his innocence anchors the story while the tension between pursuit and deception keeps the pace brisk. The film follows his efforts to stay hidden, expose the criminals, recover the necklace, and reclaim his good name, all set against the glamorous backdrop of a city theater and the world of a famous stage star.
