Maanav, Dharmendra, is an orphan raised by a Catholic priest, Father Francis, in Shimla. After completing his M.A., he returns to Tara Devi, a locality in Shimla, and discovers that his mentor has died. He relocates to Bombay by train, and during the journey a man named Gopichand Sharma, Shatrughan Sinha, tries to steal his luggage; Maanav chases him down and retrieves it. The two men form a cautious friendship despite their very different paths: Maanav vows to lead an honest life, while Gopichand, who is estranged from his wife, a nurse, Kalyani, and their son, Master Bunty Munna, is an alcoholic and a thief.

Gopichand Sharma eventually tries to turn his life around. He patches things up with his family and attempts to abandon his criminal ways, but this shift brings him into direct conflict with his crime boss, Anwar Hussain who plays Monto Sardar, a ruthless figure who seems to hold every thread in the underworld. The clash with Monto escalates when Gopichand’s new path earns him trouble and jeopardizes his safety. In a bid to start fresh, Maanav helps him secure a job with Hercules Milk Foods, offering a chance at honest work and a chance to support his family.

Meanwhile, Maanav crosses paths with Kaajal Gupta, Hema Malini, the daughter of the Hercules Milk Foods’ owner. Their connection quickly deepens into love, even as Kaajal’s father strives to see her married off to Shyamal, a powerful figure connected to the business. The tension between love and family duty adds another layer of complexity to Maanav’s unfolding story. Kaajal’s father’s pressure, and the looming possibility of a conventional match, tests the couple’s resolve and the sincerity of their bond.

For a time, Maanav steps away from Gopichand and Kaajal’s lives, retreating to Simla. It’s there that the consequences of the past begin to surface in alarming ways. Gopichand has been arrested for marketing contaminated milk powder, a crime that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of children. This revelation shocks everyone who believed in his transformation, and it compels Maanav to return to Bombay to confront the troubling mystery and seek answers about why Gopichand took this criminal path.

As the story resumes in Bombay, the web of loyalties, guilt, and rising stakes pulls Maanav deeper into the investigation. He must navigate a dangerous landscape of family obligations, business interests, and a criminal empire that seems determined to protect its own at any cost.
