What Is Darling of the Gods About?

Emil Jannings' second talkie; he plays celebrated operatic tenor Albert Winkelmann, adored in Vienna. A South American tour sees him lose his voice under the heat, mocked by the audience. Humiliated, he returns to Europe, where his failure is unknown. Planning retirement, he is persuaded to sing again and his voice miraculously returns.
