In a sterile, uniform suburb, a married couple, Sarah and Patrick, live with their son, Joey, with their emotions kept locked away from one another. The bond between them has grown cold and distant, and the warmth and affection that once existed between the pair seem to have vanished. The tension deepens as Patrick’s disturbing impulses begin to show themselves in his treatment of Joey, hinting at a dangerous boundary he is willing to cross. A pivotal moment occurs outdoors, where Joey places two Power Rangers toys in a provocative position on the ground, a detail that later fuels Sarah’s fog of confusion when she hears a troubling conversation between her husband and son that evening.

At the dinner table, Sarah says she spoke with a lawyer about Joey’s future, indicating that the boy might be taken away. Patrick’s reply is curt and unsettling, offering a hollow assurance: “It will all work out.” > It will all work out.

The next morning, in a desperate bid to reclaim her husband’s attention, Sarah applies makeup and dresses in a seductive red gown. Patrick remains detached, continuing to ignore her while he watches television. Frustration grows, and she goes to the bathroom and starts removing her lipstick. Believing something still clings to her lips, she aggressively scrubs them with a scouring pad until they are scratched and bloody. In a shocking act, she cuts off her own lips with a pair of scissors, a gesture that strangely rekindles Patrick’s interest. The two share tearful, bloody sex, a moment that quickly spirals into violence. Patrick then uses hedge trimmers to sever his wife’s breast and his own penis, and both die from blood loss.

The following morning, police arrive at the scene to discover the bodies. Joey is uninjured and is taken to safety by a CPS social worker, ending a harrowing chain of events in the quiet, unsettling suburb.
