The premise of Curtain Up without spoilers.

In a 1950s small town, a repertory company gathers Monday morning to begin rehearsals for the next week’s production—a dreadful play written by the aunt of one of the directors. The producer fumes, especially when the playwright arrives to help, while the cast wrestles with crises that intrude on their attempts to master the play’s bleak dialogue.
