After a violent arrest lands him in a sanatorium, Detective Karl Jørgensen is reassigned to fraud investigations, where he uncovers a case that implicates his ex‑wife and her new husband. Barred by the police chief, Karl teams with journalist John Bullnes. Their probe narrows on the city’s mayor and a major contractor, but a suspect’s suicide halts progress, leading to Karl’s suspension and Bullnes’s transfer to Berlin before Karl takes the case into his own hands.
