In Hong Kong, DEA man Fletcher [Ernest Borgnine] heads an operation to cut off the opium supply to the West; to fund this mission he has allied with wealthy American Brenner [Hartmut Neugebauer], and Brenner’s partnership brings in ex-mercenary Charlton [Klaus Kinski]. They recruit Robin Wesley [Lewis Collins], a father who is still grieving over his dead heroin-addicted son, to lead a multinational team of mercenaries. Wesley’s group is made up of fighters from around the globe, each with a hard-won past, and their assignment is clear: disrupt the heroin trade in the volatile Golden Triangle. The plan hinges on speed, stealth, and ruthless efficiency, as the operation depends on news from their distant base in Hong Kong to stay one step ahead of every danger.

Wesley’s crew includes combat veterans like Archie ‘China’ Travers [Lee Van Cleef] and Klein [Manfred Lehmann], men whose checkered histories echo the murky morality of the mission. While Fletcher, Brenner, and Charlton stay behind, watching the mission unfold from afar, Wesley’s team forms a bridge between nations and timelines—a testament to the international scope of the operation and the personal stakes carried by each mercenary. The journey begins with a river crossing into the Golden Triangle, a tense voyage that tests loyalties and nerves as the group moves closer to their targets. When the convoy reaches land, the mercenaries disembark and resume their march through dense jungle, guided by Kim and his guerrilla fighters who know these lands all too well.

The expedition culminates at a remote base carved into a quarry, a fortress-like complex hidden among limestone and dust. The action opens with a synchronized strike: one of Kim’s men and Klein each eliminate a sentry in a watch tower, signaling the start of a careful, high-stakes takeover. Arbib [Thomas Danneberg] drops into the sleeping quarters hut, where he confronts and eliminates the occupants who try to defend themselves. The rest of the commandos follow, descending the quarry walls and methodically neutralizing any enemy who escapes into the open. China [Lee Van Cleef] secures the base’s lone helicopter, preparing it for flight as the group consolidates their control over the site. With the base now under their control, the team radios back to their distant base to report that the quarry has fallen and that the helicopter is operational.

The next phase shifts to a forward push toward the opium manufacturing depot. The radar confirms the helicopter’s presence as it lands, and the mercenaries flood the depot with accurate, disciplined fire. Together, they destroy the heroin laboratories with C4 while Klein detonates the opium container silos, intensifying the destruction of the production network. Stone [Frank Glaubrecht] is wounded in the crossfire, and Klein and China hurry to his aid, while Kim and his guerrillas search for and free prisoners left behind. After the base is neutralized and the immediate threat subsides, the team prepares to disengage and return home—though not before a North American woman, Kathy Robson [Mimsy Farmer], appears and behaves in a bizarre manner, adding a disturbing human dimension to the mission. The tension peaks as China misreads Kim’s actions, mistaking an apparent threat against the woman, only to be corrected by Arbib that the woman is a heroin addict, marked by puncture marks on her arm.

In the aftermath, Wesley steps into an office and rifles through a safe. He uncovers a computer disk, a small but crucial clue, and loads it onto a nearby computer to browse its contents. The discovery hints at larger, hidden stakes behind the operation and suggests that the mission’s success may depend on information stored in a digital form, something the team will need to confront as they move toward whatever comes next. Throughout, the balance between personal loss, professional duty, and the brutal realities of the drug trade remains a constant undercurrent, shaping the choices made by each member of the squad as they confront victory, danger, and the shadows of the region they attempted to remake.
