Anand Mohan works as a manager in a wall clock company owned by Pandurangam. Padma, daughter of Pandurangam’s brother Nagalingam, stays in his house and goes to college. Anand falls in love with Padma but fears revealing it to Pandurangam, worried that the discovery could cost him his job. The tension between his loyalty to his boss and his growing feelings for Padma threads through every choice he makes, coloring both his personal and professional life with discreet hope and quiet anxiety.

Anand receives a letter from his friend Lakshmi Prasad, which explains the friend’s troubles and the losses he’s facing in business. He travels to the village to help, and in a desperate moment, he rescues Lakshmi Prasad from an act of despair, bringing him back to town in the belief that giving him a chance at work might also open doors for his own relationship with Padma. In a series of calculated moves, Anand uses Lakshmi Prasad to get closer to Pandurangam and to present the idea of his love for Padma in a favorable light, testing the boundaries of what Pandurangam will accept while trying to safeguard his own career.

Pandurangam’s perception of love shifts as he contemplates the young couple’s future, and at last he comes to a realization about the strength of their bond, offering his consent to their union. He loved a girl in his village, but circumstances drove them apart when her family relocated to another city, only to see him again years later. Meanwhile, Nagalingam takes issue with the very idea of love, opposing Padma’s romance with Anand. This sparks a deep-seated rift between the two brothers, tearing at the family’s foundations and even splitting their property, a fracture that touches their mother as well. The elder generation’s estrangement weighs heavily on everyone, and she ultimately withdraws from the quarrel by seeking solace in a temple—a moment that prompts Anand’s father to step in, take her back, and urge his son to seek a path toward reconciliation rather than continued division.

In a final, hopeful turning point, Anand, Padma, Lakshmi Prasad, and others stage a story within the story to persuade Nagalingam to change his mind. Through dialogue, demonstrations of care, and the unspoken truth of familial love, Nagalingam begins to reconsider his stance. The film culminates in a recommitment to family values: Nagalingam agrees to the marriage between Padma and Anand, and the family’s old wounds start to heal as they come back together, restored by understanding, forgiveness, and a shared pledge to move forward as one united clan.
