Raja, a wealthy but illiterate man, leads a carefree life surrounded by a tight-knit circle of friends: Ateet Shivahari Paudel, Saraswati Jeetu Nepal, Magne Kedar Ghimire, and Buddhi Buddhi Tamang. He flatly refuses his mother’s pleas to marry, joking about his neighbor’s misfortune after tying the knot, and instead basks in the freedom of bachelorhood and the comforts money can buy.
Ateet is jobless but quickly gets drawn to Brinda, asking for her father’s blessing to marry. Brinda’s father initially resists, but hinges his decision on Ateet being chosen to receive a US Diversity Visa. The wedding happens and Ateet travels to the United States, vowing to bring Brinda once her papers are in order. Yet tragedy and desire collide when Brinda falls for Raja, and the two begin a clandestine affair that unsettles the lives around them.
Magne stays close to his ailing mother, discovering how deeply she loves him, and this realization spurs him to seek opportunities abroad. Saraswati carries a heavy burden of expectations, blaming his father for a name that he feels diminishes him, and he finds himself drawn to a village girl named Bishnu. Bishnu’s father challenges him to earn money, prompting Saraswati to pursue work abroad in earnest. Buddhi, meanwhile, is married but finds himself unemployed; under the influence of alcohol and friends, he is provoked to lash out at his wife, triggering a serious rift that sends her to stay with her brother.
Amid this growing unrest, Champa, who challenges Raja, delivers sharp critiques that eventually push him toward a more stable path for his family. Yet romance takes a dark turn when Champa and Aryan hatch a plot that aims to end Raja’s life and force them to elope. Enraged and determined, Raja heads to Kathmandu to chase the pair down.
In the capital, Raja tracks down Magne, who has landed in Kathmandu after being blocked from leaving the country by a manpower agency and who has fallen into a rougher line of work. The reunion sets off a cascade of revelations: Ateet, returning, reveals that he knew about Raja and Brinda’s relationship and had crafted the entire scheme to make Raja feel the sting of loss as payment for his actions.
The story builds toward a polarized ending. Ateet marries Champa, a turn of events that leaves Raja to retreat into a hermit’s life, while Brinda remains at Raja’s home and eventually bears a child. Saraswati resolves his inner conflict by marrying Bishnu, and Buddhi manages to reconcile with his wife, preparing to seek opportunities abroad anew. Magne, meanwhile, returns to his mother’s side and looks to propose to Deepa, seeking a fresh start after the turmoil of his earlier ambitions.
