What Is Casey at the Bat About?
The premise of Casey at the Bat without spoilers.
De Wolf Hopper, who recited Ernest Lawrence Thayer’s “Casey at the Bat” thousands of times, appears in a tuxedo, steps from behind a curtain as if on a stage, gives a brief intro and launches into the poem. The camera captures him in one spot, yet his animated gestures, expressive face and resonant voice create a lively minstrel‑style performance.
