Carnival Boat 1932

With production down and his health fading, Jim Gannon faces one final season to groom his son Buck Gannon as the camp’s boss. Yet Buck is more drawn to romance than duty; he pursues Honey, a singer and dancer aboard a carnival boat that tours from camp to camp. Against his father’s orders, he leads a crew to the boat, proposes to Honey, and vows to quit his job and move to the city. Meanwhile, the camp’s ambitious head loader, Hack Logan, eyes a promotion to boss once Jim retires.

After Jim is injured in an accident, Buck’s attention to work keeps him from seeing Honey, and she begins to doubt their future together. When she visits Jim, he convinces her that Buck intends to stay in the logging life. Before Honey can leave town, a massive log jam blocks the river, threatening the dam itself. Buck puts his life on the line to dynamite the key logs, restoring the flow and stabilizing the situation.

Hack uses the distraction to try to trap Buck, hoping the explosion will kill the rival and clear the way to boss status. Buck escapes unharmed and ends up rescuing Hack when he’s trapped between two logs, exposing Hack’s treachery. The scandal sinks Hack’s bid, and with the danger past, Honey has missed the carnival boat and chooses to remain in the camp, marrying Buck.
