In 1938, Lieutenant Buck Rogers, [Buster Crabbe], and Buddy Wade are aboard a dirigible above the North Pole when a savage storm drives them into a desperate choice. They release the experimental Nirvano Gas, which—unknown to them—triggers suspended animation until rescue. A fierce avalanche buries the craft, and it remains lost for five centuries. When they finally surface in the year 2440, Earth is ruled by the ruthless dictator Killer Kane, [Anthony Warde], and his army of “super-racketeers.” A resistance survives inside the Hidden City, led by the benevolent scientist Prof. Huer, [C. Montague Shaw], and his military counterpart, Air Marshal Kragg, [William Gould].
Buck Rogers and Buddy Wade join the fighters and volunteer to travel to Saturn in search of allies, hoping to rally a broader front against Kane. Wilma Deering, [Constance Moore], accompanies them, bringing courage and tactical wit to the perilous mission. Saturn is governed by Aldar, the Council of the Wise, and Prince Tallen, [Philson Ahn], who hold sway over the planet’s loyalties.
Kane acts quickly, dispatching ambassadors to Saturn under Captain Laska, [Henry Brandon], complicating the plan and turning Saturn into another front in the ongoing struggle. The story oscillates between Buck’s efforts to gain crucial military backing and Kane’s relentless push to cement his grip, as the Hidden City and its allies press back against Kane’s regime and strive to tilt the balance toward freedom.
