Max Tim Haars and Jules Daniël Arends grow up swearing they’ll never have relationships with women, a vow they take after their father’s urgent advice. As adults, Max works in a video store and Jules serves as a supermarket assistant manager. The two brothers still party hard, dating many women and leaving them behind just as quickly, with Jules sometimes even having sex in the store’s warehouse with female subordinates.
One day, Max learns that Jules has slept with Anna Sylvia Hoeks. What starts as a casual one-night stand for Anna becomes something more persistent, and the pair begin meeting regularly with thoughts of moving in together.
Anna is a counselor for mentally disabled people, and one of her clients is Jordy Huub Smit, who becomes restless and violent when he can’t watch porn. The setting also features direct parodies of scenes from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, woven into the daily life at the facility.
Max’s discovery about Jules and Anna leads to tension, and he grows cold toward Anna. Yet Jules shifts his stance about living with her, and he also allows Max to pursue a relationship with Anna. Anna remains initially angry with Max because his actions indirectly got her fired after he handed porn DVDs to Jordy, for which she was blamed. A notable moment—Max ordering porn films by phone—echoes a scene from Clerks (1994).
In the end, after Jules and Max end up in prison following a clash with the police during an outing with the disabled, things manage to settle between them. A parallel thread follows René Henry van Loon, Max and Jules’ friend, and his girlfriend Suzanne Jennifer Hoffman as their relationship resolves too.
As the credits roll, the ensemble re-enacts scenes from Pulp Fiction, Jaws, Menace II Society, Rocky, Braveheart, Fight Club, New Kids Turbo and American History X.
