Ching Sing, Richard Ng Yiu-Hon, is a hardworking father who raises his children after his wife dies when they were young. He has three daughters and a son: Siu Tung, Siu Nam, Siu Sze, and Siu Pei. To push his kids toward stable marriages, he fakes a terminal illness and invites their boyfriends to join them for dinner, testing how far they’ll go to please him and keep the family together.

Siu Tung, Brigitte Lin, is a dedicated police officer. She meets a male prostitute, Simon Tse Sai, Tony Leung Ka-fai, and agrees to let him pretend to be her boyfriend for one day so she can present a respectable image to her father. Simon, initially in it for the money, finds himself truly drawn to Siu Tung. He makes clumsy but sincere efforts to win her heart, navigating awkward moments and earnest attempts to appear worthy in front of her family. Over time, Siu Tung’s guarded feelings begin to thaw, and she finds herself attracted to him for real, despite the unconventional start to their relationship.

Siu Nam, a social worker, meets Wu Ying, Jacky Cheung, a poor gangster. She wants to help his family improve their life, yet in a bid to impress him, she contemplates joining the underworld herself. Wu Ying, seeing the risk in such a move and recognizing her genuine care, decides to walk away from his criminal milieu and seeks a fresh start with her. This risky attraction highlights the tension between loyalty to family and personal longing, as Siu Nam weighs the pull of danger against a chance at a new, law-abiding life with Wu Ying.

Siu Sze, a doctor, meets Lee Chi Ko, Ekin Cheng Yee-Kin, a 27-year-old virgin. Through one of Chi Ko’s female patients, Siu Sze learns about his reputation for being set up with different girls due to his fear of intimacy. She toys with the idea of provoking him to have sex, hoping to test his feelings, but the plan backfires when she sees that Chi Ko’s true warmth and care run deeper than the rumors. As they spend time together, she discovers how much she genuinely cares for him, and they grow closer, moving from playful tension to mutual affection.

After dinner with all his children and their partners, Ching Sing reveals that his longtime pen pal Chi Sum Chan, Sandra Ng Kwan Yue, is coming to Hong Kong. The family already finds themselves wary of her schemes to siphon their father’s money, and their suspicions only intensify when Chi Sum Chan arrives. The tension between suspicion and curiosity colors the evening as they try to keep up appearances.

Meanwhile, trouble brews outside the family’s circle. Gangsters move in with violent intentions toward Siu Tung, but their attempt to murder her fails. In a bold turn of events, they kidnap Chi Sum Chan, unaware that this drastic act actually brings the family closer together. The interruption forces them to face their loyalties, protectiveness, and the lengths they’ll go to safeguard one another. In the end, the upheaval of their plans to manage love and fortune under their father’s watchful eye exposes the resilience and warmth of a family that chooses to stand together, no matter how chaotic life becomes.
