Yearning to forge authentic cinema in early-1970s Hollywood, 25-year-old French-Canadian Jim DeSalle, played by Alain Patrick, sets out to make genuine films to support his wife Barbara Mills and their baby, hoping to craft an illusion of the perfect life.
Yet the dream quickly collides with a harsher reality. Unbeknownst to him, the local police Vice Squad has been watching them because of their involvement in the production and distribution of pornographic films.
Jim’s carefully laid plans begin to crumble as raids tighten their grip. His unscrupulous distributors refuse to pay, he has a fling with an actress, and his wife leaves him, taking their child. The pressure only mounts as creditors close in, threatening to seize his assets and evict him from his beach house.
Amid the mounting chaos, Jim and Lisa confront a shared but fragile truth: they long to escape it all. Their dream becomes a bold plan to sail away with Baby to the middle of the ocean, seeking distance from the upheaval that has consumed their lives. Yet this dream may arrive too late, because Jim confides his longing to escape to the Vice Cop, casting new doubt over their already uncertain future.
