In the cramped, buzzing streets of Nørrebro, Copenhagen, two friends draw a stark line between aspiration and frustration. Lenny [Mads Mikkelsen] is a shy, perceptive film enthusiast who spends his days behind the counter of a local video store run by Kitjo [Zlatko Burić]. Across from him, Leo [Kim Bodnia] drifts through a grim apartment with his girlfriend Louise [Rikke Louise Andersson], a relationship stretched thin by poverty and pressure. The pair’s daily routines—quiet, intimate moments at home and late-night conversations about stories and life—set a fragile backdrop for the turmoil that will soon unfold.

When Louise discovers she is pregnant and decides to keep the baby, Leo’s temper grows increasingly volatile. The tension spills into the open during a night out when Louise’s brother, Louis [Levino Jensen], is present and a confrontation at a club escalates into a heated dispute. The strain ripples through the circle: Lenny does his best to stay out of the conflict, while Louise and Louis face a surge of anger and fear that neither of them fully understands.

As the friends gather for movie nights—an escape that momentarily unites them—Louis’s attitude surfaces with a brutal, racist edge during a quick visit to a drug store. The clash between Louis and Leo intensifies, feeding Leo’s sense of entrapment and disgust with his own life. The domestic violence that follows devastates Louise, and the couple’s fragile future seems to implode as tragedy strikes: Louise loses the baby after Leo’s physical attack.

The consequences explode in a stark, cruel sequence: Louis retaliates with a calculated, horrifying act by injecting HIV-infected blood into Leo, a bid to hurt him in the worst possible way. Leo, in turn, shoots Louis, sealing a grim arc of violence that ends in Louis’s suicide. The air grows heavy with unspoken guilt and sorrow as Kitjo steps into the aftermath and helps Lenny confront the extent of what has happened. He brings Lenny to Leo’s funeral, but the distance between them feels permanent, and Lenny cannot bring himself to attend.

Yet life doesn’t stop. After the funeral, Lenny finds himself drawn back to Lea [Liv Corfixen], a woman who works in a local grill bar. He asks Lea out again, and while she hesitates, she ultimately agrees to give him another chance. The film closes on a note of tentative hope, a quiet insistence that even in the wake of devastating decisions and irreversible loss, people may still search for connection, tenderness, and a path forward.

Throughout, the story balances intimate, everyday moments with sudden, brutal shocks, painting a portrait of a community where friendship, love, and fear collide in a city that never truly slows down.
