Cornel Wilde as Matt Campbell arrives in Kenya, drawn by the urgent report that his brother George has vanished. A man named Leo Genn as Ralph Hoyt tells him that George has fallen under the alleged grip of the Leopard Men, a feared cult whispered about in the local villages. The claim casts a shadow over the plains as Matt grapples with the possibility that his brother’s fate might be darker and more dangerous than a simple disappearance.

Matt’s introduction to the landscape is mirrored by his encounter with Ann Wilson, a keen and thoughtful anthropologist who sees through rumors and tries to read the truth written in the customs and fears of the tribes. She’s puzzled by Matt’s hesitation to travel to Mombasa for George’s funeral, hinting at secrets behind the tragedies that have brought them together. It’s not long before Christopher Lee as Gil Rossi—an experienced big-game hunter—enters their orbit. Rossi had been helping George look for a valuable uranium mine, a clue that seems to complicate the family’s losses. Hoyt, however, skeptically dismisses the mine, insisting it’s nothing more than a legend or a trick of the woods.

A second business partner, Ron Randell as Eliot Hastings, arrives with his own version of events: George’s body has been cremated, yet Hastings has managed to secure what appears to be a map. The sense of mystery thickens as the three decide to mount an expedition beyond the comfort of the coastal towns, with Ketimi, a local guide, and other tribesmen leading the way into uncharted terrain. The journey is as much a test of nerves as it is a test of survival, and the wilds resist with peril at every turn.

Along the trek, a shared moment among danger and wonder draws Matt and Ann closer. A wild encounter with hippos becomes a vivid memory that binds them, even as the trio faces further hazards. Rossi’s skills are tested when a crocodile attacks, and Hastings acts quickly to shoot the threat, underscoring the precarious balance between savagery and skill in this landscape.

Dark currents ride beneath the surface as night falls. Tribesmen, wearing leopard disguises, launch a savage assault on Hastings, a brutal reminder of how fear can fracture a fragile alliance. Ketimi is struck down by a poisonous dart, and the surviving tribesmen withdraw, leaving behind questions that grow heavier with every step deeper into the heart of the land. The expedition presses on to a shaft that may conceal George’s or the mine’s fate, and the trio—Eliot Hastings, Matt, and Ann—descend into the darkness with a mix of hope and dread.

Inside the shaft, Ann makes a harrowing discovery that changes everything: Hoyt, her own uncle, has murdered Gil Rossi with a blow gun. The revelation shatters the trust that held the group together, and Hoyt’s confession confirms the most chilling motive: he killed Ketimi and paid other natives to pose as the Leopard Men, weaving a web of deception to hide his own greed and crime.

With the truth exposed, Matt and Ann brace for danger as they confront Hoyt in the narrow confines of the mine. The danger isn’t over, though; just as they become Hoyt’s next targets, Ketimi’s fellow tribesmen return, motivated by a long-simmering grievance. The reappearance of Ketimi’s people shifts the balance once more, turning a perilous moment into a potent act of collective retribution.

In the end, what begins as a resolute search for a missing brother becomes a layered confrontation with myth, power, and betrayal. The Leopard Men cult—whether real or a perilous fabrication born of fear and greed—leaves its mark not only on the land but on the people who dared to walk its shadowed paths. The expedition’s legacy is one of revelation and vengeance, where loyalty is tested, and the line between hunter and hunted blurs in the heat and hush of the African night.
