What Is Behind the Lines About?
The premise of Behind the Lines without spoilers.
Amany Al-Ali is a Syrian cartoonist living in Idlib, one of the last cities not controlled by Assad’s forces. Amid relentless Russian airstrikes and conflict between troops and extremist groups, she faces threats and condemnation for her work, causing her to consider leaving. Though her art has been exhibited internationally, it has never been shown within Syria. The film follows Amany's attempt to organize her first exhibition in Idlib, confronting the harsh realities of the city through drawing lessons for women and girls, comforting her niece, and sharing her story with the documentary crew, as her hope for the future diminishes.
