Meg Kelton, Gigi Darlene is a Boston housewife who endures a brutal assault by a janitor in her apartment building. He tries to coerce her by leaving a note under her door threatening to tell her husband if she doesn’t come to his apartment. She goes to pay him off, but he attacks her. She kills him and flees to New York City. Upon arriving, she changes her name to Ellen Green and pretends to be from Chicago. A sense of danger lingers as she tries to start anew in a city that never sleeps.
