In the province, Flavio II [Coco Martin] and his wife Carmen [Carmi Martin] raise their newborn son, dreaming he might become the next heroic legend. They entrust the pious Rosa Batungbakal to care for him, but the malevolent Lizardo, Jake Cuenca and his goons, attack the unprotected house. Rosa hurries the infant to a church to seek guidance from a priest as Flavio fends off the attackers. In the brutal struggle, Flavio is stabbed and dies after fighting the spirit, who swears to rule the world.

The baby grows up to be Flavio Batungbakal III, a streetwise figure who ambushes bandits around a busy market in Tondo, only to be apprehended by the police. Flavio is released from prison, and his stepfather Andoy Batungbakal, Jaime Fabregas, warns him not to wreak havoc on the streets anymore. He leads a comfortable life with his family and regularly crosses paths with Maria, Mariel de Leon, a beautiful woman whose parents disapprove of him. Meanwhile, a new human form of Lizardo appears in the shadows alongside his father, and this Lizardo is strongly drawn to Maria, craving to be with her. A nearby beauty contest unfolds, only to descend into chaos and danger.

Citizens begin to turn into aswangs under the influence of a reincarnated Lizardo, who quietly schemes to take over the country by posing as a savvy businessman. During one attack, an aswang disguised as a dog bites Flavio’s younger brother Diego, who insists the injury is minor. While walking, Flavio is followed by an old man carrying a magical book that reveals the true existence of the aswangs and threatens him with a butterfly knife. The old man realizes that Flavio is the only known bloodline bearer capable of stopping Lizardo and his army.

Flavio receives a map and sets out on a quest to locate a mythical dagger that could aid his fight against the rising darkness. His journey through the forest unexpectedly shifts into a magical kingdom, where he meets dwarves who direct him toward the dagger. After glimpsing a diwata, he is led to the Kingdom of Light, ruled by the Engkantos. He pleases the king and queen and is granted the path to the dagger. He confronts a skilled swordsman, defeats him, and retrieves the dagger in a shadowy cave. With a powerful surge, he lifts the dagger, summoning a shockwave that transforms it into the double-edged blade of his grandfather—the original Panday.

Returning to Tondo, Flavio wields his grandfather’s sword to cut down many of the encroaching aswangs. Diego’s injury worsens, and he becomes a reluctant aswang who sacrifices himself rather than harm anyone else. Grief-stricken by his brother’s death, Flavio presses on, but Lizardo’s dark influence eventually fatally stabs him. He falls into a coma, only to be revived and healed by the old man who mentored his quest. The hero then journeys into the mountains, learning that he must train hard and forge his sword before facing Lizardo again. A desert realm awaits him, where he battles numerous goons as the voice of darkness amplifies Lizardo’s power in a final bid for victory. When the voice recedes, Flavio engages Lizardo in a sword duel and emerges victorious, piercing Lizardo’s weakness to end his reign.

Back at the church, Flavio returns with his family and Maria to celebrate their hard-won victory over Lizardo. He vows to continue defending the world from future, lurking threats and to keep the light alive for those he loves.
