American Venus 2007

Jenna Jane McGregor is a teenage competitive skater who has been coached by her overprotective, high-strung, gun-obsessed mother Rebecca De Mornay. When Jenna decides to quit competing to pursue a college education in Vancouver, her mother grows furious and tries to prevent her from leaving home, ultimately locking her in a hot sauna until Jenna agrees to stay. Her father Matt Craven secretly helps by giving her money to leave, while Celia travels to Canada to force her back.

In Vancouver, Celia’s resolve hardens as she escalates her plan: she attempts to bring a handgun into the country, seeks one from a drug dealer, and even has a sexual encounter with a policeman who can supply a weapon. After Jenna brings her father to Vancouver to fly her mother home that day, Celia doubles down on driving back herself, despite Jenna’s protests. Before they leave Canada, Celia fires a warning shot at a persistent squeegee man who had been cleaning the windshield and was asking for payment.

Shaking, she orders Jenna to stop driving and runs into a park tunnel, pulling out the gun and begging Jenna to shoot her. A tense struggle over the weapon ensues, leaving Celia grazed in the head and knocked to the ground as Jenna cradles her. Celia acknowledges to Jenna that she must let her go. The movie ends with Celia returning to the United States the next morning, bandage visible on her head.
