Afraid of Nothing, the Jobless King 1999

Ha Kong, once the chief executive officer of Tung Enterprises, sees his career upend after the corporate chairman dies of a heart attack. The chairman’s son, Tung Ser, moves to seize control and hires thugs to strike Kong unconscious, leaving him out of the office for three days and leading to his firing for violating his employment contract.

Left homeless, Kong takes shelter with Chu Jing, a kind-hearted beggar who helped him after he woke from a coma. Amid a harsh era of unemployment during the financial crisis, Kong poses as a beggar while staying with Jing’s family, trying to figure out his next move. On the streets, he crosses paths with a compassionate woman, Law Nam, whose warmth and understanding draw him in. He begins courting Nam, even spinning a lie about having a younger beggar brother to win her sympathy and trust.

Nam’s belief in his story fuels Kong’s bid to bounce back, and he forges a comeback by aligning with a prominent American pharmaceutical factory. This renewed partnership, guided by Nam’s emotional pull, marks a significant turn in Kong’s fortunes and re-enters him into the business world he once commanded. Yet the deception gnaws at Nam, and she ultimately recoils, choosing to marry Kong’s rival, Tung Ser, instead of him.

The wedding of Nam and Tung Ser becomes the focal point of Kong’s lingering plans. In the shadow of the ceremony, Kong moves to settle scores and reclaim dignity, setting the stage for a piercing act of revenge that underscores the film’s intricate dance between ambition, love, and payday consequences.
