The Stooges, Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard, are aspiring performers rehearsing their act in a cramped rooming house. The building’s other tenants include the vain actor Paul Payne, and chaos erupts when the trio’s pet monkey Joe nabs his toupee.

Prompted by a phone call from a booking agent, they rush to board an overnight train to fulfill a theatrical commitment. Along for the ride is Joe, and the journey is watched over by the stage manager, Bud Jamison as Johnson, who demands that Joe be kept in the baggage car. When the door to the baggage car slams shut too soon, the trio smuggles Joe into the passenger compartment, setting the stage for chaos.

The Stooges disrupt their fellow passengers: they slip into Paul Payne’s private drawing room in his absence and help themselves to a fancy meal he had ordered; then they wake sleeping travelers as they struggle to climb into their berth. Joe roams freely, and the trio races to keep him hidden from Mr. Johnson. The tension reaches a peak when Joe, terrified, triggers the train’s emergency brake, abruptly stopping the journey. Passengers and the conductor vent their anger, and the Stooges are promptly ejected from the train.
