Jai Puri, Akshay Kumar, is a forest ranger in Alberta, Canada who possesses a unique ability: he can step into a photograph and relive events from the perspective of the person depicted. On a boat celebration, his father Jatin suffers a sudden accident, and soon after, a retired detective named Habibullah Pasha, or “Happi,” explains that Jatin had done him many favors and that someone may have killed him. Jai, initially thinking Jatin died of a heart attack, decides to test his power by entering an 8x10 photograph that features Jatin, his brother Sunder, Jai’s long‑time friend and lawyer Anil, and a surrogate son named Adit—captured by Jai’s mother Savitri during the boat trip. Through this first foray, Jai relives Jatin’s fall and begins to suspect foul play rather than a natural death. The stakes rise as he realizes the truth could threaten his own safety and those around him.

As Jai pushes deeper, he reenters the photo from Sunder’s point of view and discovers him tampering with Jatin’s drink. This leads to a hospital reentry where Jai pieces together that Jatin had been given extra beta blockers after earlier heart issues, and that slipping into the cold water may have triggered another heart attack. With support from Happi, Jai revisits the events through Anil’s eyes, uncovering a conversation between Savitri and Anil about a secret Jai is not meant to know. The investigation grows more perilous when Jai sees Adit’s perspective and learns that Adit was the person who supplied Sunder with the pills. Adit’s own attempt to kill Jai forces a broader confrontation: he escapes only when Happi arrives after receiving Jai’s message.

The puzzle tightens as Anil reveals a motive tied to wealth: Jatin wanted his estate to benefit Jai’s environmental company, which is why the trio allegedly plotted to eliminate Jai to protect their own shares. Jai’s world shifts again as Savitri becomes the next target, still unaware of how deeply she’s entangled in the scheme. A stabbing wounds Jai, and a hidden box in a room becomes a crucial clue. An adrenaline shot from Sally, a nurse who aids Jai, revives him enough to force another reentry into Jatin’s perspective, only to be ambushed by the attacker who burns the photo in front of him. In this moment, the puzzle expands beyond family ties to reveal a shocking impersonation within the family circle.

The earliest truths emerge: the last person Jatin saw alive was Jai’s own twin brother, Jeet, believed dead after a cliff fall. Jeet had survived and, with Sheila’s help, copied Jai’s life and habits to replace him. Sheila had even disclosed her true identity to Savitri after stabbing her, prompting Sai to search for the photos that would expose the ruse. When Jai regains consciousness, a brutal brawl unfolds. Happi is killed by Sheila, and Jai is dragged into the water, uncovering Adit’s corpse later as he fights to free himself. With Sheila in his grasp at gunpoint, Jai faces Jeet and convinces him that the cliff incident was an accident, not a murder. Sheila shoots Jeet, wounding him, and then is herself shot, and both die.

Returning to his mother’s home, Jai finds a measure of closure, yet the memory of the events lingers. He encounters one of the family photos again and instinctively reaches for his ability once more, only to be halted by his mother, who places a protective hand over the image. In this quiet moment, Jai accepts that the past cannot be undone, and he learns to live with the fact that the truth arrived through danger and loss, but his sense of responsibility remains intact. The story closes on a note of somber reconciliation, with Jai choosing to move forward while honoring his family and the limits of his powers.
