Bob Langmore, a disgraced former NHL player, uncovers a chilling family curse that slowly renders him invisible. This grotesque affliction has pushed him into eight years of isolation as a logger, where he clings to illegal drugs and a creeping contemplation of suicide as his only constants.

Darlene reaches out with a warning about Eva, their daughter, who is growing more rebellious and intends to travel with friends instead of heading to college. Unable to go through with ending his life, Bob abruptly quits his job, leaves town, and suffers a brutal breakdown behind the wheel, his truck crashing as the transformation intensifies.

Desperate for help, Bob phones his drug dealer Nelson, who in turn brings in Crisby. A grim bargain emerges: Crisby will fix the damaged truck if Bob delivers a bear organ and returns a package from black-market contacts Milton and Bishop. Reluctantly, Bob agrees, hoping the arrangement will buy him time to visit Eva and Darlene while he still can.

Back at Darlene’s place, she’s moved on in a relationship with her girlfriend Molly, and Bob finds shelter on her couch. He has a string of awkward exchanges with Eva, including a probing question about her grandfather’s history with mental illness, a hint of the family weight that haunts them all.

On the road, Bob completes the organ delivery to Milton and Bishop and is handed a return package. Crisby presses him for a quick return, but Bob pushes back, insisting he’ll come back on his own terms.

Eva, along with friends Amelia, Benjy, and Oggy, sneaks into the abandoned Mountainview mental hospital. A frightening moment reveals Eva’s first visible signs of her own transformation. The teens are chased by a security guard, but a sudden, unseen force lashes out at the guard and they escape.

Inside Mountainview, a Chinese doctor becomes fascinated with Eva and the mystery of her condition. When Eva goes missing, Bob and Darlene mount a frantic search that leads them to the hospital. Bob’s volatile behavior lands him in trouble, and he is detained for a time. Dr. Amherst, who once treated Bob’s father, drops a shocking claim: Bob’s father did not commit suicide but burned himself on purpose to keep his condition hidden, and he may still be alive somewhere. Amherst urges Bob to stay, but he manages to slip away during the night.

Bob discovers Eva is also turning invisible and learns that her curiosity about his father’s illness drew her to Mountainview. He tracks Eva to a Chinese grocery, where she’s held in a backroom cage, and he rescues her from captivity.

The pair head home, but Bob’s body is growing increasingly fragile from the transformation, so Darlene agrees to let Eva drive. On the return trip, Bob passes Milton’s package to Nelson with instructions to deliver it to Crisby, who later discovers only a bag of metal bolts inside.

Eva remains by Bob’s side for a while, and he reveals a final plan to end his life at the mill, a request Eva resists but cannot fully stop. Bob sets off for the mill, and Crisby arrives at the house with a shotgun, intent on harming Eva. But Bob, now fully invisible, returns and overpowers Crisby, killing him and leaving his body for a bear to consume.

In the aftermath, Eva gravitates toward college, and a shared silence about their condition deepens between them. They piece together a revelation: the invisible presence that rescued Eva in the hospital basement was actually Eva’s grandfather, who is alive. With that new truth, Eva and Bob resolve to return to Morningview to find Bob’s father and uncover more about the enigmatic family curse that binds them all.
