The film centers on Vicky, the only child of millionaire Sonia Chang [Isha Koppikar], who has been kidnapped. The loss is softened, somewhat, by the comfort of Rocky [Upen Patel], a local who stands by her during this tense period.

In a coincidental turn, Raj Malhotra [Shahid Kapoor], a struggling actor, crosses paths with Priya [Kareena Kapoor Khan], a young woman who has run away from home. Their chance encounter leads them to a lone child wandering the streets of Mumbai. Moved by the situation, they take the child under their wing, even as a missing-person notice stirs in the background. Realizing the child is Sonia’s son from the advertisement, they decide to bring him back to his mother and inform Sonia of the discovery. During this delicate moment, Sonia is in discussions about changing her will with her lawyer, Mr. Dixit, hinting at motives that will soon be tested. Simultaneously, Raj finds himself drawn to Priya, deepening their bond as they navigate the moral and practical complexities of their plan.

The tale intensifies as Raj and Priya travel to Goa and encounter a drunken man near Sonia’s mansion. The man bolts off in fear as they approach, and soon they discover Sonia murdered. They flee, only to realize the child remains inside the mansion. Raj musters the courage to re-enter, finding the child, but a frightful glimpse behind a cupboard—eyes and legs—drives him to escape with the boy. Fearing for their safety, they notify the Goa police, and Raj is soon arrested by Inspector Karan [Akshaye Khanna], who questions him and tries to unravel the chain of events. Raj refuses to name Priya as an accomplice, while Priya, in a bold move, takes Vicky to a church to drop him off but is spotted by Rocky, who has the child with him. Rocky calls the police, and Priya is arrested as the investigation widens. The pair find themselves as prime suspects, and their emotions deepen under the strain as they share a developing affection even from behind bars.

As the investigation unfolds, Inspector Karan summons Rocky to the station, and Raj recollects the pivotal details—the distinctive eyes and shoes of Rocky, visible behind the cupboard the night Sonia died. Rocky claims he was in another room, having discovered Sonia already dead; in a panic, he considered fleeing, but Raj and Priya’s arrival altered the course of events. Karan pieces the night together by weighing Mr. Dixit’s statements about the will and the testimonies of those involved. At first, Karan suspects a drunkard as the killer, but the truth gradually surfaces: the drunkard is only a distraction, while the real culprit is the mastermind who hired the kidnapper. The kidnapper, who lost the child in the confusion, is ultimately found by Raj and Priya in Mumbai. Sonia’s discovery of the kidnapped child triggers the actual murder, and those around her become entangled in guilt and misinterpretation. The final revelation points to the housekeepers, Mr. and Mrs. Lobo, as the true killers. The will, which initially favored those closest to Sonia’s son, becomes the key clue; upon learning of Sonia’s altered will—and recognizing the danger posed by the couple—the court ultimately grants Raj and Priya custody of Vicky, ensuring the child’s safety and a hopeful future.
