Set in the misty hills of Darjeeling and the bustling streets of Calcutta, this drama follows Shekhar, Shammi Kapoor, a young singer who lives with his widowed mother and is in love with Rita D. Rai, Shakila, the daughter of the wealthy Rai Bahadur Digamberprasad Rai. Rita’s father disapproves and hopes she will marry a prosperous Calcutta-based businessman named Chowdhry, steering the couple away from Shekhar’s modest dreams. Rita asks Shekhar to improve his social standing, but he is content with his singing career and the closeness he shares with his family. When Rita and her father relocate to Calcutta, Shekhar follows, determined to prove that love and passion can endure even under pressure.

An enraged Rai lodges a formal complaint with the police, who arrest Shekhar for questioning. The investigation takes a surprising turn when the authorities note his striking resemblance to a China Town gangster named Mike, Shammi Kapoor, who is already in custody. Since Mike remains tight-lipped, the police persuade Shekhar to impersonate him in order to infiltrate the Chinatown criminal ring and uncover its workings from the inside. This risky ruse pulls Shekhar deeper into a dangerous double life, blurring the lines between truth and deception.

Meanwhile, Shekhar’s mother drops a startling piece of family history: Mike could be his long-lost brother Shankar, kidnapped by gangsters as a boy. Buoyed by this revelation, Shekhar takes over Mike’s life, stepping into a role that could redefine his future. But the plan begins to unravel when Mike—who is alive—manages to escape from police custody with Rita’s help, though she mistakenly believes she is protecting Shekhar by aiding Mike’s escape. Mike’s presence shatters the fragile balance, and the two men’s fates become intertwined in a web of loyalty, mistaken identity, and shared blood.

Mike’s girlfriend Suzie, Helen, soon discovers Shekhar’s true identity but chooses to spare him after learning that Mike is alive and that the two brothers may have a chance to reunite. Her revelation is overheard by the gang, who seize the moment to close in on Shekhar. The tension escalates as the brothers confront the criminal syndicate, and the gang’s leader—Joseph Wong, Madan Puri—is finally brought to light. The confrontation culminates in a daring takedown that exposes the full extent of the operation and the brothers’ shared past.

In the aftermath, justice takes a direct route: Shekhar secures a permanent position with the police force, a turning point that makes a future with Rita possible, while Mike receives a reduced sentence of three years. The ending threads together love, loyalty, and family bonds, showing how two brothers forged through danger can reclaim their lives and choose a path toward peace and responsibility.
