Martin Scorsese
Martin Scorsese is a renowned American filmmaker and historian, considered one of the most significant and influential directors in cinema. Born Martin Charles Scorsese on November 17, 1942, in New York City, he has had an active career that spans over six decades. Making a name for himself in the 1970s, Scorsese has built a prolific repertoire of films recognized for their distinctive style, featuring slow motion and freeze frames, liberal use of profanity, graphic violence, as well as explorations of machismo, crime, guilt, and Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption. Noteworthy films include Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, and The Irishman, among others. Scorsese won the Palme d'Or at Cannes with Taxi Driver in 1976, and his film The Departed earned him the Academy Award for Best Director. He also directed the series premiere for the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing. Throughout his career, Scorsese has received many accolades and awards. He has been married five times, and has three children.
