Swire Symphony Under the Stars: Dates, Cities & Tickets

Swire Symphony Under the Stars invites you to experience Hong Kong Philharmonic’s legendary free outdoor concert in a whole new light. Under the masterful baton of composer‑conductor Tan Dun, the evening unfolds as a vivid, nature‑inspired journey from the whispering reeds of Smetana’s The Moldau to the thunderous finale of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, each piece carefully chosen to evoke animal imagery and bursts of color.

The program features a star‑studded quartet: HK Phil principals *George Lomdarz and Richard Bamping take center stage as the Wolf and the Swan, while rising international talents violinist Angela Chan and percussionist Lin Zhe bring to life Tan Dun’s originals, The Lark and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Listeners will also be treated to spirited arrangements such as Dinicu (arr. Tan Dun & Felix Ventoura), The Lark, a Marimba Concerto excerpt, and Alex Tam’s arrangement of Steve Harline’s “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinocchio. The journey culminates in Tan Dun’s Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds leading into Ravel’s timeless Boléro* before the monumental 1812 Overture erupts, complemented by spectacular harbourfront fireworks.

This cinematic celebration of music and nature promises a night of soaring virtuosity, family‑friendly excitement, and unforgettable fireworks. Join us under the stars for a concert that will truly feel like a shared adventure, every note, every burst of light, crafted to enchant and inspire.
