Rejoicing in the Chinese New Year
Celebrate the new year with the Hong Kong Philharmonic in a dazzling, cross‑cultural musical journey featuring the virtuoso harmonica–sheng player Gordon Lee and composer‑presenter Leon Ko. Under the baton of conductor Qian Junping, the orchestra opens with the world premiere of “Playing With Air,” a commission from the HK Phil for world‑harmonica‑festival champion Gordon Lee, and then dives into a jubilant montage of Chinese classics and iconic Hong Kong film classics. The program continues with a dazzling menu of orchestral showpieces: Otto Nicolai’s “Overture of Windsor’s Winds,” Gao Shizhang’s “Empty Field” (world premiere, Hong Kong Orchestra, senior arrangement), Tan Dun’s “Network Symphony ‘Hero’,” Annasgu’s “First Romanian Rhapsody,” and Li Huanzhi’s “Spring Festival Overture.” Join us for a festive night that blends timeless tradition with contemporary energy, celebrating the spirit of the Chinese New Year.
