Ozzy Osbourne Biopic Confirms Lead Actor and Director Following Six-Year Development

Development on a long-gestating biopic about heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne has entered its next phase, with a lead actor and director now officially attached to the project. According to the late singer’s son, Jack Osbourne, the film has been in development with Sony Pictures for six years and is moving forward with a significant rewrite of the script.

Casting and Production Details

While the specific actor chosen to portray the “Prince of Darkness” remains a closely guarded secret, Jack Osbourne described the selection as a “phenomenal, phenomenal actor” during an appearance on the Influenced podcast. He confirmed that the production has a director attached and is currently undergoing rewrites. The family has been heavily involved in the project, with Jack providing his father regular updates before Ozzy’s passing in July 2025.

Distinct Creative Vision

Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife and a key figure in the project, has stated that the film will take a different creative approach from successful music biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman. She described the intended tone as “a lot more real” and explicitly stated the film is “an adult movie for adults,” emphasizing it will not be “squeaky, shiny clean.” While acknowledging the success of Bohemian Rhapsody in introducing Queen to new audiences, she characterized it as a “Hallmark rock movie.”

Osbourne’s Legacy

The biopic will chronicle the life of the Black Sabbath frontman, whose career was defined by iconic songs like “Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” and “Hand of Doom.” Ozzy Osbourne passed away at age 76 after a farewell performance in his hometown of Birmingham, UK. The film aims to capture the “wild, insane, and dangerous” nature of his life and his enduring relationship with Sharon.
