James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has provided a clear explanation for the extended wait for “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” the upcoming introduction of Batman into the new DC Universe (DCU). In response to fan inquiries on Threads, Gunn revealed that the film’s script is still in development, firmly placing its release date in 2028 or later. This timeline is intentionally designed to avoid clashing with the release of Matt Reeves’s “The Batman Part II.

Gunn addressed the lack of updates on casting and production, stating his reliance on an “actionable script” before moving forward. He emphasized that the delay is not a matter of prioritizing other DCU projects but a calculated move. “I’m not going to have two Batman movies come out in the same year,” Gunn asserted, highlighting the importance of both the main DCU Batman and the separate “Elseworlds” franchise starring Robert Pattinson.

Animation are developing an animated film adaptation of the iconic 1990s comic book arc, “Batman: Knightfall.” This multi-part project is classified as an Elseworlds story, meaning it exists outside the main DCU continuity.
